A bit of history
Its rarity made it a currency of exchange or remuneration.
The French word "salaire," the Roman "salarium," itself derived from "sal," was the "payment for work or service rendered" given to legionnaires in addition to their pay.
The Celts and Germans knew perfectly how to preserve all kinds of foods, including herring and pork, which we still salt today.
The tradition of scented salts is more recent. Herbs or aromatic seeds accompanied the meals of Swiss or Austrian soldiers on campaign or at war, adding variety to their meals. These same soldiers passed this recipe on throughout Europe and beyond.
In Bulgaria, "Sharena Sol," or "colored salt," graces dining tables or flavors dishes. Its color comes from paprika and, flavored with spices.
What's in my flavored salt?
Flavored salt isn't cooked; it's used as a seasoning at the end of preparation by sprinkling it over food.
Pink diamond salt is a rock salt mined in Pakistan, the basis of my spice.
Crunchy and spicy, its beautiful orange-red color is eye-catching.
Sprinkle it over your food for its spicy flavor and floral aroma to surprise your taste buds.
How do I use my chili-flavored salt?
This salt will have the greatest impact on your table during mealtimes. However, warn your guests about the chili in this deliciously crunchy salt.
Hold your hand in the kitchen and salt the food sparingly so that the Devil's Salt can be fully appreciated.
Everyone can ignore it or add a pinch of salt to the dish on their plate.
A pinch of this flavored salt works well with fresh goat or sheep cheese.
Salt preserves food, as everyone knows.
Use it for salmon or tuna gravlax, or for salting fish for smoking.
If you're familiar with monkfish liver cooked in a terrine or pan-fried, reserve the Devil's Salt for serving on a plate. Its spicy flavor will be a wonderful addition to your meal.
